U9 Green Team vs RGS The Grange, 77-69 Win

The U9 girls had their first cricket match on Tuesday this week and the sunshine came out for us! We lost the toss and batted first. It was a strong performance from our opening batter, Sumayyah, who hit a few 4s and made some excellent runs with her partner Amelia. There was also excellent decision making from Amelie and Tanvi who snuck in a few cheeky bonus runs, capitalising on slow fielding from the opposition. Ying Ying hit the ball well and Zoya also had an excellent innings, managing to score some 4s. We ended our innings on a very respectable 72 runs.
It was then our turn to field. I was very proud of the girls’ bowling for their first game so early on in the term. There were very few points given away from wides and no balls, making it difficult for RGS to gain additional runs. With some quick thinking in the field, Anika managed to run out the opposition to add an additional 5 runs to our final score. The result was a Hallfield win of 77-69. Isabella was given girl of the game for her super all-round play. Well done to all the girls; an excellent start to your cricket season!

U9 Red Team vs RGS The Grange

The U9 red team played their first cricket match away against RGS The Grange. On a beautiful sunny afternoon the girls won the toss and elected to field first. Super bowling from all of the team meant that few runs were conceded from wides and no balls. Alongside this Aditi, Jaiya, Mia and Anchal all took wickets with the aid of some good fielding and super catching, especially from Hannah. Hallfield limited RGS to 68 runs. The run chase got off to a good start with Aditi scoring a 6 of one of her balls. Hannah called well and ran strongly between the wickets, securing two 4s. The remaining girls watched the ball carefully and added to the score. It was a really tight game but unfortunately the girls just fell short of a victory narrowly losing 73-71. Overall a great first game, next time we need to be a little more decisive when batting and ensure we pressure the oppositions fielding to score more runs. Hannah was given girl of the game for her super performance. Well done, girls!

U11 A Team vs Highclare

The U 11 A team played their first match of the cricket season at home to Highclare. Playing on the grass pitch the girls lost the toss and were put into bat. Humaira and Zia got off to a good start in the first two overs, hitting some tricky balls and managing to defend the wicket. Kathryn and Olivia worked well as a team, communicating confidently and hitting the ball hard – both scoring 4s and Kathryn hitting a 6! Siona and Anshi continued to contact the ball well and to keep the runs going both again hitting 4s and Anshi also hitting a 6. Towards the end of the batting the runs continued at a slower pace but the girls managed to defend their wicket well. Going into the field the girls had a total of 60 to defend. Good bowling at the top of the order made it difficult for Highclare to score. The girls were quick in the field making a number of stumpings and accurate bowling meant Zia, Humaira, Olivia (2) and Anya all took wickets – adding to our score. Ellen and Anya, and Lucilla and Hana worked well together to begin to develop some good understanding in the field. Overall a good start to the season securing a 85-65 win. Girl of the game was Olivia.
