This year’s Old Hallfieldian cricket match was a perfect reminder of why this event is such a favourite in our calendar. With the sun shining brightly and a gentle summer breeze in the air, we couldn’t have asked for better weather to bring our community together for an evening of friendly competition.
Both sides had a mix of youth and experience amongst the players, with Dhyan and Mani who left last year, putting themselves forward to be captains.
From the first over to the last ball, we were treated to some impressive batting, clever bowling, and sharp fielding. The highlight was without a doubt, the nail-biting finish. The match came down to the very last few deliveries, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. It was a dramatic and exciting end that perfectly capped off an already brilliant evening of cricket.
No summer match would be complete without some delicious food. We swapped the traditional ‘cricket tea’ for a BBQ, which was enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
We were delighted to welcome former teacher Mr Terry Stephens and his wife. Terry taught at Hallfield for 30 years, from the late 1960s to the late 1990s, and saw some of his former pupils at the event! We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came along – whether you played, cheered from the sidelines, or simply joined in for the food and conversation. Special thank you to Miss Baker for scoring, and Old Hallfieldian and Governor Suk Aulak for umpiring. Events like these remind us of the spirit of the Hallfield community, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
