Science at Hallfield emphasises practical work. We encourage the children to learn about the different types of investigation and build their enquiry skills progressively each year.

In addition to this foundational scientific knowledge, we aim to develop other transferable skills in each pupil, such as collaborative working, communication, independence and listening.

More specifically, the children study new topics each half-term, and these cover concepts that relate to each of the Sciences: Biology, Physics and Chemistry. From Year 3 onwards, the children have their Science lessons in one of our two well-resourced Laboratories, where they begin to familiarise themselves with the equipment and practices of that environment.

By the time the children reach Year 6, Hallfield pupils are critical thinkers capable of planning, conducting and recording extensive scientific investigations – and their skills are showcased in the Science Fair at the end of their time at Hallfield.

In 2014, our Science provision was awarded the prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark ‘Silver Award’. We’re hugely proud of our pupils’ scientific skills and successes – and work tirelessly to enrich and enhance them year in, year out.
