Malvern College Eight8 Cricket Tournament 2025
On Sunday 18th May, ten teams were split into 2 groups who played each other in the group stage. In a closely fought Group A, Hallfield won 2 matches and lost 2 matches. But, so did two other teams which lead to a very exciting bowl off to see who went through to the Plate final. After 5 bowls at the stumps, The Elms were eliminated – well done to Kyran for hitting the stumps! Then sudden death against Packwood. After another 4 attempts, but missing, Ibrahim, (our wicket keeper!) hit the stumps – Packwood had to hit to stay in, but they missed, so we went through to the plate final. In the final Bluecoat B team batted first and we restricted them to 47 runs. Giaan and Aarav opened the batting and played very well to get us close to the total before they retired, and Kyran and Rayyan hit the winning runs comfortably.
The whole day was a great chance for the boys to play lots of cricket in a superb setting against some good schools. Well done everyone for playing so well!
Group A
The Elms 73 – Hallfield 49 (Giaan 33 retired)
Moor Park 38 – Hallfield 39
Bluecoat 81 – Hallfield 45
Hallfield 50 – Packwood 36 a.o
Plate Final
Bluecoat B 47 – Hallfield 48
Hallfield Red team U9 v Winterfold
Hallfield loss the toss and were put into bat. Playing their first game on grass gave them a different problem with an uneven bounce but the girls dealt with it well. A steady stream of runs was made throughout the innings and with Winterfold’s bowling inconsistent the girls scored a total of 76 runs with both Amaya and Haniya hitting 4s. Improving communication from the girls saw good running between the wickets. Tight and generally accurate bowling from Hallfield in the second innings limited Winterfold’s ability to run. A super wicket from Haniya also helped by adding 5 runs to Hallfield’s score. However, a good last two overs from Winterfold saw them pressure Hallfield a couple of 4s in the last over bought Winterfold into touching distance of the girls. Hallfield managed to hold on for a good victory 81-71. Well done!

Hallfield Green team U9 v Winterfold
Hallfield won the toss and elected to field in the glorious sunshine. The girls were working on their overarm bowling skills, using the windmill technique, that they have been working hard to improve over the course of the half term. We were fairly accurate with bowling and the girls kept alert in the field, limiting Winterfold to a total of 61. The team were excited to commence the chase towards victory and started with a fabulous opening partnership. Some wayward bowling for the next few partnerships, alongside some fantastic singles being scored left the team in a strong position. Our final partnership took to the square and performed well, scoring runs fast and keeping our bails firmly on.
The individual girls displayed great communication, batting skill and speedy running between wickets – resulting in a total of 71 to Hallfield and the match win. Well done girls, some great progress!
Bowler of match – Evelyn.
