Two of our players had fantastic results in The British Chess Championships over the summer. These are obviously some of the strongest junior chess events in the calendar and it was great to see out U9 board one, Aariyan and our U11 board one, Krish pit their wits against the best in the country.
Krish had an absolutely fantastic tournament, beating player after player and leading the event after the first day. Despite a strong 2/3 on the second day he finished third, just half a point behind the 2 joint winners. Wow, what a performance. He then played in an adult blitz tournament the next day and finished second out of 34 players!

We also had Aariyan competing in the Under 8 section where he was the 20th seed. He didn’t worry about that though, he stormed through the tournament playing the best chess he has ever played and finished as joint British U8 Rapid Chess Champion. Aariyan is Hallfield’s third British Chess Champion in the last 15 years, following Ashwin Kalyana U10 (in 2010) and Rohan Pal (U9) in 2018. Congratulations to Aariyan who works very hard at his chess and deserves this amazing success.
