Day 1 – Off to a Flying Start at Cranedale!

It was an early start as the coach set off promptly at 7:00am, with excitement and anticipation buzzing through the air.

Year 4’s first day at Cranedale was a wonderful mix of adventure, learning, and laughter. In the afternoon, the children got stuck into a variety of outdoor challenges in the Cranedale forest, including low ropes, team-building activities, and logic mazes. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving skills shine through.

After some well-earned downtime relaxing in the cosy common rooms, everyone enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner — and even placed their breakfast orders ready for the morning! The evening session offered a chance for reflection, as pupils explored the local history of Cranedale and developed their map-reading skills in preparation for the days ahead.

With full bellies and happy hearts, everyone settled in for a well-deserved rest, ready for the adventures of Day 2!

Day 2

The year was split into two groups to enjoy the same two, different field trips across the two days.

One group spent the day at Dalby Forest, where they put their geography skills to the test — measuring river depth, width, and velocity, and even building rafts to race down the stream!

Meanwhile, the other group explored the stunning Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs, where they spotted rare puffins, a colony of seals, and uncovered crabs in the rock pools

After some well-earned downtime with friends, Year 4 tucked into a tasty dinner of burgers and chips before taking on some fun evening challenges around the centre — and winding down with a comforting hot chocolate before bed

Day 3

After a great night’s sleep, the children woke up refreshed and ready to dive into another sun-filled day of exploration and learning.

The groups swapped destinations, with one heading to the dramatic coastline to discover more crabs, puffins, and fascinating rock formations. Meanwhile, our budding geographers took to the river once again — wading in to gather depth, width, and velocity measurements (with plenty of splashing and laughter along the way!).

As the sun began to set, the children enjoyed their final dinner together before rounding off the day with their evening activities and getting cosy for a fun-filled pyjama parade.

It’s been another brilliant day spent with truly brilliant children — full of curiosity, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.

Day 4

Pupils had an early start this morning ready for a trip to the beach and rock pooling before the journey home.
