Sports Results – week ending 7th February

On Monday 3rd February the U10 Netball team welcomed Blue Coat School. It was a close game between two evenly matched teams. In windy conditions, Blue Coat took an early lead but Hallfield worked hard to close the gap. Hallfield won the second half but unfortunately could not overturn the lead Blue Coat had taken in the first half. The final score was 5-2 to Blue Coat.

On Tuesday 4th February the Year 4 girls had their first match experience of Bee Netball against Priory School. This is a new five-a-side Netball game where all the girls rotate through all the positions during the match. The girls worked hard and learnt a lot. We moved the ball well when we got into a space instead of trying to pass it over the top of our opposition – who were much taller than us as both their A and B teams included Year 5s! Well played all-around, girls. The ‘A’ team lost 3-0 and the B team lost 2-1.

On Tuesday 4th February the U11 team travelled to Villa Park to play in the Premier League U11 mixed Football Tournament.

We played eight games in the pool stages, winning five, losing two, drawing one. This meant that we qualified in 4th place for the semi-finals.

In the semi-final, we played against Northfield who had previously beaten us in the group stage. The scores were level on 1-1 at full time, and after extra time, so we went into a sudden-death penalty shoot-out. Pranav made a fine save on their first penalty and Harees scored with his attempt, so we went through to the final.

In the final against Blue Coat, we scored first but then they equalised, so again it went into extra time. Avinash hit a blistering strike into the top corner to win the game with seconds to spare! All the boys played well and it really was a great squad performance.

The results were as follows:

v Watermill – Won 5-0 (Ed Miller scored four goals)

v Birds Bush – Won 4-1

v Lapward – Lost 0-2

v Northfield – Lost 0-1

v Blue Coat – Drew 0-0

v West House – Won 2-0

v Hurst Green – Won 1-0

v Jervoise – Won 2-0

We qualified equal 4th but went through to the semi-final as we had beaten the other team on the same points.

Semi-final v Northfield – Won 1-1 (1-0 on penalties)

Final v Blue Coat – Won 2-1 (in extra time)

This means that we have qualified for the Mixed Grand Final at Villa Park Academy at the end of February!

On Wednesday 5th February the U11 Vixens Netball teams travelled to Bromsgrove. The ‘A’ team had a really tough match as Bromsgrove, who are a national standard team, started off very strongly and we were 8-0 down in the first quarter. We were very proud of the girls for not letting their heads drop and battling on. We managed to draw the next quarter 1-1 and fought hard to be able to score another five goals over the final two quarters. The girls took this as a learning experience and picked up some tips from the team. A 20-6 loss for Hallfield but a good learning experience. Mohini received a well-deserved Girl of the Game.

The ‘B’ team also had a tough match. Again, Bromsgrove took an early lead. The girls tried really hard to put some of our training into practice with the passing and we saw a marked improvement here. It was another good learning experience for the team where Bromsgrove’s dodging skills really took its toll on our girls. The final score was 15-2 to Bromsgrove. Mansimar received Girl of Game for all her hard work as Centre.

A very big well done to our U8 girls who played in the Netball match at Blue Coat on Thursday 6th February. It was our first experience of a Netball match so there was a lot to learn. The girls definitely got better as the game went on and were much better at sticking with their player rather than following the ball. We just need to work on our own passing into space now. The girls all thoroughly enjoyed their game, well done! The ‘A’ team lost 2-0 and the ‘B’ team lost 4-0.

Mr Moffatt and the Rugby teams have had another busy week; it was great to see all the Year 6 boys out on our fields representing the school on Wednesday afternoon playing some good Rugby against West House:

U11 C Rugby v West House – Lost 11-5
