U11 Netball Tournament at Shrewsbury.
The U11 girls travelled all the way to Shrewsbury for a tournament on Wednesday. Hallfield faced seven teams, none of which we had ever played before so we didn’t know what we would be up against.
We were put into a round with three other teams. We won our first match, lost our second, and drew our third match. The top three teams (including Hallfield) had all won two and lost one so it was very close, however, we went through to play for the Plate on goal difference.
Here we won the semi-final and went through to the final. The final match was so close; we had the majority of the possession but unfortunately, our shots kept rebounding and did not seem to want to go in. In the last seconds of the match, we were losing 4-3 when Diya shot her last ball. The ball had left her hands by the time the whistle had blown and it went in! Unfortunately, it didn’t count because netball rules state that the ball has to have passed through the hoop by the whistle. Really unlucky girls, but a great result as we were runners up for the Plate.
We were commented on by all the other teams and Shrewsbury school themselves, who were all very impressed with the standard of netball the girls played.
Mrs Finnegan and I were so proud of the girls, they were beautifully behaved for the whole tournament, took their wins and losses really well and they played some superb netball. Mansimar joined the ‘A’ team for this match after showing such great skills during her ‘B’ team games of late, and special thanks to Imaani who stepped in at the last minute to replace one of the team who couldn’t make it. It was a great demonstration of teamwork as each member of the squad proved essential in every match they played.
Due to the bad weather this week, all rugby and football matches had to be cancelled. The only result was from the U10 ‘A’ rugby team who drew 3-3 against Old Hall School.
Congratulations to both Siona and Henry who had incredible success at the Edgbaston Priory Club’s Squash Tournaments recently – Siona came 1st and Henry in 2nd place. Also, Siona won the Club Championships for the Girls under 9’s. Well done to both children!
Keep an eye out for our future games and events.
