Here we are today with Sports Results – Week Ending 28th February.
Elliott in Year 5 loves competitive sport; on the first Saturday of half-term, he was fortunate enough to represent his club, Bournville RFC, at the Prima Cup Final held at the Leicester Tigers stadium. It was an amazing opportunity for Elliott to play on the Leicester Tigers pitch.
Monday 24th February
Having won the qualifying tournament, the U11 football team returned to Villa Park to play in the finals of the Premier League U11 Football Tournament. In the pool stages, Hallfield played five matches against other qualifying schools. We won two games, drew two and lost just one game, and so progressed through to the semi-finals. Here we played a skilful Boldmere Junior School (who we previously drew 0-0) who played some neat football, beating us 2-0 and progressing to win the final. Another excellent competition for the boys who played really well and were pleased to finish in third place.
On Monday evening, a specialised batting Masterclass by the Warwickshire and England batsman Ian Bell MBE was delivered to a selection of Hallfield pupils. A whole range of shots were practised, as well as having some games, before an insight into professional cricket was given along with a Q&A session. The children were then able to get autographs and photos with Ian.
Tuesday 25th February
We had two good wins for the U9 Rugby teams away at Wolverhampton Grammar; the ‘A’ Team won 9-8 and the ‘B’ Team won 9-4.
Netball U9 ‘A’ Team Vs Eversfield ‘A’
The U9s had their second match of the season against Eversfield. Always a surprise for our girls, as Eversfield always put boys in their teams. Our opponents started off strongly and we were 2-0 down to start with. We had a tactical chat where we discussed what we had practised in training and the girls started to pull the game back. The improvement throughout the match was really noticeable and the final result was a 5-2 win to Hallfield. Chloe received Girl of the Game.
Netball U9 ‘B’ Team Vs Eversfield ‘B’
Again, the second match of the season for our ‘B’ team and, with some changes, the first match experience for some of the girls. The girls fought really hard in their match which was evenly matched against the boys and girls of Eversfield. However, with some good play, Hallfield started to pull away from their opposition. The match finished with a 3-0 win to Hallfield. Hannah received Girl of the Game. Well done to all girls who played really well.
Wednesday 26th February
Netball U11 ‘B’ Team Vs Priory ‘A’
The girls had an excellent game against The Priory. We were 3-2 down after the first quarter but soon dominated for the remainder of the game. Excellent shooting from Ashrita, who usually plays GK, and great teamwork from everyone else to overturn possession and get the ball down to her. Well played to all the girls who achieved a 13-6 win.
Netball U11 ‘C’ Team Vs Priory ‘B’
The C team dominated this game from start to finish and had the opportunity to put their learning into practice. Excellent teamwork with some beautiful shooting from Jaya and Imaani. Dhyana was stand out as GD, overturning possession every time in our defensive third and preventing the Priory from even trying a shot! Great work girls with an 11-0 win.
Also on Wednesday, the U11 ‘A’ and ‘B’ rugby teams played Wolverhampton Junior School at home. The ‘A’ Team drew 15-15 and the ‘B’ Team lost 12-9.
Thursday 27th February
The U8 rugby teams welcomed West House School with the ‘A’ Team winning 8-7 and the ‘B’ Team losing 13-10.
