In conjunction with our in-house catering company, Holroyd Howe, we’re delighted to have launched ‘Meat Free Monday’ for our Prep children today.
Meat Free Monday is a concept that aims to reduce the amount of animal products that we eat, focusing on delicious vegetarian meals. It is not focused on promoting vegetarianism or veganism but to encourage and educate our pupils that we can eat less but eat a better quality of meat. Changing what we eat just one day a week can make a huge difference now and into the future.
Eating a sustainable diet means we will:
* Lower consumption of animal products such as meat and dairy
* Eat less processed foods
* Consume more plant foods
* Consume more local and seasonal foods
* Waste less food
In turn, this is better for both the planet and us because:
Consuming less animal-based products is one way to lower our environmental footprint and can contribute to reducing changes to the environment. Forming part of a balanced nutritious diet, it can have positive impacts on us as we consume less saturated fat, sugar and salt, in turn increasing our consumption of vegetables and fibre.
On Monday 2nd December, we will roll out the initiative to our Pre-Prep children too. Please visit our School Lunches page to see the new menus.
