On Thursday 13th February, five children from Year 6 were invited to Shrewsbury School as finalists in the Sir Philip Sydney Essay Writing Competition. The afternoon began with a series of quick-fire lectures delivered by Shrewsbury teachers. The lectures dealt with the question “Is the greatest threat to humanity, the human race itself?”, considering the issue from a scientific, classical and musical perspective. The pupils then embarked on a round-robin of different activities connected with the lectures – the particular highlight being the science experiment which involved extracting the DNA from a strawberry!
When the winners were announced, we were delighted to hear that both Imaani and Edward were Highly Commended for their entries. Well done to all pupils!
