Bug Hotels

In STEM lessons, Year 3 have been exploring the hypothesis that invertebrates like insects are vital to all living things. To test this hypothesis over the weeks, the children have been learning about the features, the life cycle of insects and the connection between plants and insects for survival.

This learning has enabled the children to design, make and create their own bug hotels using natural materials. Combining DT skills of sawing, joining, drilling and screwing, the children worked in pairs. They have used their learning to make the bug hotels inviting and comfortable for any insect to inhabit and enjoy.  The final results were fantastic and one that all the children should be very proud of.

The last part of the task was to place the bug hotels in the schools ground for insects to use and make their homes. Year 3 cannot wait to see over the next couple of weeks which insects have inhabited their bug hotels!
