The Under 10s enjoyed a very successful season, remaining unbeaten and finishing second to our Colts at the Hallfield 9 a-side tournament. They managed to combine good honest rucking from the forwards with quick handling and elusive running from the backs. The tackling wasn’t bad either. They were an exciting team to watch and a pleasing team to coach; good listeners and willing to learn and develop. The highlight of the season would have to be the last second equaliser in the match against a strong Heathfield U11 team and Adil’s surprising burst of pace and powerful finish. The reaction from the ‘crowd’ (Hallfield parents admittedly) said it all.

Report
The whole year group were taught together and all of the boys who were fit to play worked hard enough to be selected at least once for the school in a variety of fixtures. Most of the group are fairly small in stature and relied on speed and good hands when in possession. Tackling technique was practised though sometimes we were over reliant on one or two boys in match situations to move up on the opposition and stop them in their tracks. Next year with pushing scrums the boys will have to work on their physicality. Overall our strength in depth was impressive and all of the boys showed a real passion for the sport.
The A team matches against Prestfelde and Birchfield were excellent with Hallfield fighting back from behind against strong opposition and using our fast set of backs to get back into each game. In other matches we kept our noses in front and started to become less reliant on one player as support play improved.
In the B and C matches we ran in plenty of tries which were well shared out and showed considerably more skill and understanding of the game than the opposition.
Overall it was an enjoyable season for boys and staff alike. Thanks to Mr Harris for his enthusiastic support in lessons.
In the end 31 out of 32 boys got a chance to represent the school(too many to name individually) and most of them made the most of their opportunity. Hopefully they will all show similar passion for the game next year.
Colours were awarded to Nathan Perry, Adeeb Salim, Arjun Nahal, Rohil Aurora, Josh Hale(player of the season for his many tries and sterling defence), Saif Mukadam, Jai Verma, Nikhil Verma and Arjun Ubhi who all played in every A team fixture and withstood some very strong opposition.

Report
With the ball the team could pass and run though too many of the side moved sideways and came on to the ball too slowly. Scrummaging was sound and rucking improved. Defensively the team was weak with hardly any tackling around the legs which always allowed the opposition to break the first tackle and run through us easily. Credit must go to Subheg Ubhi for leading the forwards well and to Danish Shehzad and Matthew Ritson who both ran straight and were our main scoring threat. Enough of the boys now know how to play the game and with a little more commitment to going into contact they could do well in the future.
Squad; Muhammed Kurji, Neal Shah, Abdur Rahim Hameed, Taran Chatha, Shiv Bharakada, Shivam Marwaha, Zain Khalfe, Rajan Purewal, Matthew Ritson, Rohan Shanghavi, Max Pannum, Charlie Church,Richard Oh, Subheg Ubhi, Louis Pottinger, Ethan Mulliss, Danish Shehzad.
COLTS RUGBY 2012
The Colts got off to a slow start to the season, losing their first match 2-7 to Prestfelde School. Thereafter things improved with a 5-0 win over Birchfield School and a very tight game against Old Hall School which we lost by 3 tries to 2. The Colts lost by the same score to Arnold Lodge, in another close game.
The Colts redeemed themselves by winning the Hallfield Tournament, beating West House, Mayfield, Hydesville and Heathfield Schools en route.
The team was selected from:
Ikhlaas Ahmed, Daniel Black, Freddie Edge, Matthew Empson, Ben Hale, Hugh McMenamin, Abbas Mirza, Dylan Perry, Louis Pottinger, Rajan Purewal, Haresh Ram, Matthew Ritson, Aditya Rokade, Rohit Suglani and Subheg Ubhi.

A Team- Played 4 Won 3 Lost 1
B Team –Played 2 Won 1 Drew 1
C Team –Played 1 Won 1
Highlights- 30 boys out of 33 represented the school with all levels doing well. Hard to distinguish between a lot of the players. For next year they must all focus on better tackling and support play so that the ball can be released before the tackle.
Colours awarded to; Hector Meering, Harvin Suthi,Nikhil Gupta, Andrew Fergusson and Lewis Smith.
U10 Rugby Spring Term
The U10 team enjoyed a successful season in terms of matches, involving 6 games in all and 5 victories. Our only defeat was a narrow one against U11 opposition in the Hallfield Tournament, so the boys have a good deal to be proud of. Victories included dominant displays against Prestfelde, Blue Coat and West House. Our front three proved too strong for many schools and it was great to see the smooth progression to contested scrums and line-outs, as well as developing the important skills of protecting possession in tackles and rucks.
All of the regular team members were deservedly awarded colours; Daniel Black as captain, Hugh McMenamin, Matthew Empson, Rohit Suglani, Ben Hale, Iklhaas Ahmed, Tayo Faopohunda, Rajan Purewal and Aditya Rokade.
Just as importantly a total of 24 boys were given an opportunity to play in a competitive match, all of whom acquitted themselves very well.
