Vixens Netball Spring Term 2012

The A team has been superbly captained this year by Aaliyah Wallace. They have made great progress; played 5 games and one tournament and have had some super results.  They made a good start against Blue Coat showing great character to come back and secure a weel deserved draw – 9 -9. The team then travelled to King’s Hawford, a new fixture for us. The team made a good sound start and took the lead. Despite King’s Hawford coming back at us over the final 20 minutes the girls held the shape and secured a 13-9 victory. A home game against Prestfelde followed. Excepitional play in attack from Aaliyah, Natasha Rana, Michaela Barker and Sneha Pimpalnerkar saw the team win 13-1.

A tough trip to EHS followed. The girls played with determination, but found it difficult to play against a very tall team and they lost 11-3. However, they picked themselves up and went away to Prestfelde for a tournament consisting of 10 teams. The girls played some great netball in the rounds; the defence finally began to retain possession after over turning an opposition attack and the shooters were putting away the goals on a regular basis. We won games against Moor Park, Prestfelde and Shrewsbury High School – losing narrowly to St. Winefrides  and came out top of the group, which meant the girls went into the semi-final. Here they played Old Hall who had won the tournament for the previous 4 years. The girls played superbly well to win 4-3 and set up a final against Packwood Haugh. It was a tense, exciting and close match. At the end of full time the scores were level which meant the game went into extra time. Unfortunately we lost out by one goal but did secure a fantastic second place.

The season unfortunatley ended on a rather flat note losing our final game to Winterfold.

Spring term 2012

Captain: Sienna Williams

Team: Avani Sall, Temi Fapohunda, Jasleen Garcha, Libby Shepherd, Millie Shaylor, Rhea Takhar and Martha Edge.

Overall the girls have had a successful term playing netball. Their skills have developed throughout the season and they have learnt to intercept and defend the ball to a better standard of play.

The girls have played in 5 matches this season; they have had several wins and a few losses. They have played very well as a team, learning to anticipate each others movements and the flow of the game. In particular I would like to mention Libby Shepherd who has played some exceptional netball, never giving up until the last whistle has blown. The girls have been very supportive of each other, they have represented the school in a positive light and I have thoroughly enjoyed their company whilst coaching them.

Under 9 Netball Spring Term 2012

The Under 9 A team had a busy season playing 4 matches and entering their first tournament. The team lead by Kate Muliss made great progress over the course of the season and secured some excellent results. Their first match against Abberley Hall was a good game, the team had lots of possession, but were unable to convert shooting chances and narrowly lost 3-2. An away game against a stron team from Blue Coat followed. The girls had a difficult game, chances to score were not taken and possession was given away too easily. They ended up losing 8-1. However, they picked themselves up and put in a dominant performance against Prestfelde in their next match, winning 8-0.

Next came the team’s first tournament at Birchfield. There were 8 teams in the competition and the girls’ confidence grew as the games went by. They began with a great win against Birchfield and went on to win against St. Dominics and avenge the warly season loss to Abberley – winning that game 4-0! This meant that the team won their group and went to the final against Shrewsbury High School. It was a tight and tense game, with neither team able to dominate. At half time the scores were level but unfortunately at full time we were down by one goal. The girls played some excellent netball to gain second place in their first tournament.

Two more games followed before the end of the season. These wer games against King’s Hawford which we lost and Winterfold in which we came showed great character to come from behind to secure a well earned draw.

Captains: A Team – Ellie Smith B Team -  Sienna Williams

Highlights- The girls played very well this season and they made tremendous progress with their skills. Every girl in the year represented Hallfield which shows we have good strength in depth; and the girls all enjoyed the experience. The captain for the A-team, Ellie Smith was super. She showed great determination for her team’s success as well as been a flexible player, able to play in attack and defence. There were some great goals observed in these fixtures by the two main shooters, Millie Shaylor and Rhea Takhar. For next year, our target is to improve our consistency in scoring as well as working on improving our footwork. A special congratulations to the B-team for achieving a winning season and to the captain, Sienna  Williams who shows much promise for her first season in playing Netball.
