The B Team record was: Played 13, Won 7, Drawn 4, Lost 2

The U9 football team enjoyed a very successful term. The records of both teams in all competitive matches was excellent as was the quality of the football. In many games the A team were simply too good for the opposition and were able to score hatfuls of goals. On two occasions, against Prestfelde and Warwick, we met teams who could really give us a match and it was in these games that the boys showed their mettle and willingness to work and battle, as well as grab the glory. Unfortunately, one of these games was in the final of the Prestfelde Tournament, which we have won for the last two years.  Despite a brave effort we came up short in the last game but the boys did themselves and their school proud.

The Bs showed the great strength in depth we have in this age group as we notched up a number of impressive wins, including two each against local schools Blue Coat and West House.

Report

A huge variety of fixtures enabled me to play virtually every boy in the Year group. The A Team came very close in two tournaments. Going out in the semi finals is always tough but at least we had the satisfaction of being the highest scorers in both tournaments. In normal fixtures only Old Hall got the better of us and at times our play was very impressive with some fine moves and finishes. All of the boys are good all round players who can perform in any position.

The other teams gave us good back up. The B team got stronger as personnel changed with players moving up and down ability groups as competition increased. The lower teams enjoyed their outings and produced some memorable moments notably Charlie’s hat trick at  Old Hall.

A big thanks to all the boys for being so understanding as others were given a game and to Mr Steed and Mr Harris from the kitchen for helping run teams in times of need.

Finally Abbas Mirza was given the outstanding player award and Louis Pottinger the most improved player award.

Report

The A team were very hard to stop with goals flying in from all angles. Football wise they are very talented but they must learn to physically compete when matches are close. Once in possession of the ball they are very potent with an eye catching pass and move style.

The B team had a mixed set of results which would have been better with calmer finishing in front of goal. Twice they lost when dominating matches because chances went begging and defence wasn’t robust enough. At the Repton Tournament they won a trophy which was contested by the teams who finished bottom of their group. They played well but again couldn’t quite get it in the net.

The C and D teams showed our strength in depth and acquitted themselves well in their matches.

Won on penalties in Medal Semi Final

Won 2-1 vs Packwood in Medal Final

Report

Guess who won medals and a trophy? Yes the B team rather than the A team who came second and rattled in loads of goals. The B team just couldn’t put the ball in the net in their group matches despite playing well at times. The A team played very well with the ball and became more competitive in the tackle as the tounament reached its later stages culminating in a brilliant semi final win and a competitive final where we hit the bar and forced their keeper into action on numerous occasions.

Thanks to Mr Watson for running the B team and to Mr Shackleton for his unwavering support. The travelling parents conjoured up cakes, snacks and drinks at the right times and urged the boys on in the right manner helping them to cope with elation and disappointment.

We played some excellent Football throughout, averaging 3 goals a game. The 2 teams we lost to contested the final and we deserved more in the semi where we created a lot of chances but just missed out.

We had great support from the parents and the boys were very patient as the team was rotated and subs were thrown on.

# There was quite a lot of movement between teams but overall 35 boys played for the school out of 43 in the year group. It was a great shame that a tournament for the C and D teams was cancelled because of the early onset of winter.

Report

The A team played in a series of very close 7 a side matches often coming back from going behind and finishing strongly. Other schools had strong A teams in this age group and our boys had to learn to compete physically as well as tactically. In two of the defeats vs Birchfield  and Repton we were very close to forcing an equaliser, despite being 2-0 and 4-0 down at half time. We finally forced a draw in our final game against  A talented West House side after losing to them twice. We learned that if you start slowly it is very hard to come back but we nearly did so on several occasions.

In the Under 11 6 a side Tournament at Shrewsbury we played well but were out powered by two teams in our group. In a plate quarter final we somehow blew a 2 goal lead with a minute to go vs Arnold Lodge  because we all went chasing the ball despite my exhortations from the line. We lost in extra time having learned a lot. We reversed this score against them at home winning 5-3 having been 2-0 down. Entertaining stuff!

Player of the Year was Joe Lamb and most improved player was Hugo Meering.

The B Team were very strong, rattling in many goals against less organised opposition. Often the Goalkeeper was under employed as the game was mostly played in the oppositions half. Results would have been even more one sided if I hadn’t of swapped players around out of their normal positions. They all took this in good faith realising why I was doing it. There wasn’t much difference between our A and B team.

Our strength in depth was brought into real focus by our C and  D teams who were much better organised than the opposition. This proves that all of our boys are taught the game well, not just the strongest players. They were an excellent Year Group to teach, always willing to listen and learn more about the game.

Can I give a particular thanks to Mr Watson for preparing the C and D Teams  and to old boy Aiden Wilkinson for helping us run a full programme of fixtures for so many boys. Finally thanks to the parents for their  enthusiastic support.

Under 9 Rugby Report – Spring Term 2011

A Team- Played 4 Won 3 Lost 1

B Team –Played 2 Won 1 Drew 1

C Team –Played 1 Won 1

Highlights- 30 boys out of 33 represented the school with all levels doing well. Hard to distinguish between a lot of the players. For next year they must all focus on better tackling and support play so that the ball can be released before the tackle.

Colours awarded to; Hector Meering, Harvin Suthi,Nikhil Gupta, Andrew Fergusson and Lewis Smith.

U10 Rugby Spring Term

The U10 team enjoyed a successful season in terms of matches, involving 6 games in all and 5 victories. Our only defeat was a narrow one against U11 opposition in the Hallfield Tournament, so the boys have a good deal to be proud of. Victories included dominant displays against Prestfelde, Blue Coat and West House.  Our front three proved too strong for many schools and it was great to see the smooth progression to contested scrums and line-outs, as well as developing the important skills of protecting possession in tackles and rucks.

All of the regular team members were deservedly awarded colours; Daniel Black as captain, Hugh McMenamin, Matthew Empson, Rohit Suglani, Ben Hale, Iklhaas Ahmed, Tayo Faopohunda, Rajan Purewal and Aditya Rokade.

Just as importantly a total of 24 boys were given an opportunity to play in a competitive match, all of whom acquitted themselves very well.
