ABRSM Music Medals
This term, for the first time at Hallfield School, we have introduced ABRSM Music Medals. These are informal exams taken during individual music lesson time and assessed by the child’s instrumental teacher. There are five levels: Copper and Bronze for beginners and Silver, Gold and Platinum for more advanced players. First, pupils play an ensemble piece – often a duet, either with a fellow pupil or their teacher. Next they play a short solo piece which can be accompanied by their teacher on the piano, or played alone. Finally, pupils undertake a musicianship test, for example copying a rhythm or making up a tune. The exam is video recorded, marked by the teacher and then sent off to the ABRSM for moderation.
Mrs Shaw is proud to congratulate all 10 pupils who took part this term. All pupils achieved an ‘excellent’ mark in at least one section of the exam and some achieved ‘excellent’ overall! The following children will receive a medal, commentary on their performance and a certificate. Very well done! Mrs Shaw looks forward to entering more pupils for these exams next term, including some at Platinum level!
