The school day in Reception, for 4 to 5 year old children, is similar to that of Foundation (link) in terms of timings and the way in which the year group is split into 3 separate forms with designated teachers and support staff.

In Reception we build on the concepts, knowledge, skills and understanding covered in Foundation. Your child’s programme of study will include the Early Learning Goals, listed below, and certain key elements of Key Stage 1 of the national curriculum:

• Personal, social and emotional development
• Communication, language and literacy
• Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Creative development
• Physical development

Like the Pre-Prep as a whole, Reception operates by the Golden Rules listed below:

• Do be gentle, don’t hurt anybody
• Do be kind and helpful, don’t hurt people’s feelings
• Do be honest, don’t cover up the truth
• Do work hard, don’t waste time
• Do look after property, don’t waste or damage things
• Do listen to people, don’t interrupt

If your child has been the most successful in his or her form at keeping the Golden Rules in a particular week, he or she will be awarded the Golden Rule badge in Assembly on Friday. The badge is his or hers to wear for the week until it is handed over to the next recipient. Golden Rules certificates are also awarded termly on a similar basis to encourage good behaviour.
